Nice post, I hope your Valentine's was sweet. I'm going to have to look for the Sant-Orsola Brachetto D’Acqui at my Total Wine, sounds interesting!

Lisa -
Chances are, the fact that it was more round and fruity was a good thing! That probably helped it pair with the spicy Jambalaya and Gumbo. Though a varietally correct garnacha could work as well, I personally prefer round and fruity reds with my spicy foods.
Cheers
Matt

A friend brought this wine to our Mardi Gras party Friday night, but I finally opened it tonight and drank it with some of the spicy leftover Jambalaya and Gumbo. Having never had this wine before, I guessed, by the name, that it was a Grenache, but since it didn't have the typical varietal characteristics (as you noted), I felt compelled to look it up online. Needless to to say, I came across your review, and I must agree with it completely. I think it's definitely a good value wine, and pairs well with spicy foods (or pizza). I wouldn't hesitate to serve this to my friends, regardless of what their level of wine appreciation. It's a nice choice!

Joe - I agree that a Sauvignon Blanc would work very well with the dish. However, I had someone tell me they dont like Sauv Blanc, so I wanted to offer some Chard ideas. David Cole, from James David Cellars said he'd go for a glass of his Muscat Blanc, which he actually brought from CA on his last trip down to the Keys. I also had recommendations of pairing a Rose Sparkler or a Chinon Blanc via tweets!

Oh, man. I don't know how I could deviate from White Bordeaux or another dry Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend with this!

Joe,
I appreciate your input and ideas. I especially like the idea of a Gewurzt or Sparkling Shiraz. I have some Elena Walch Gewurztraminer at the house, and may use it as one of my selections when I make the chili this weekend.
