Hey Matt,

having been to Chile quite a lot and having a special love for Carmenere, i feel that these 3 wines are the best Carmenere I have tried so far in the mentioned price range and I can highly recommend them:

1) Max Reserva Carmenere 2007 from Viña Errazuriz. This one left me truly without words (and everyone who tried it with me too). Absolutely outstanding. The 2008 harvest could not convince me though, try to pick a 2007.

2) Terrunyo Carmenere from Viña Concha y Toro. Very elegant Carmenere and slightly ahead of Santa Carolina Reserva de la Familia.

3) Santa Carolina Reserva de la Familia Carmenere as tried by you. A beautiful wine that (also to me) tasted even better the next day.

Hey Matt..Havent tried this particular wine...BUT!...One carmenere that i feel deserves merit and MUCH appreciation comes from the Maipo valley..Under the Ventisquero label...Its the 2006 Ventisquero Queulat Carmenere Gran Reserva. Beautiful wine...I found it at a wine tasting at my local retailer and fell in love. See if u can pick it up and give it a whirl (or a swirl LOL)
