OH NO! That sounds like a terrible experience. However, I agree that it sounds like you got a bad bottle, based on the flavor profile. Rubbing alcohol and plastic bubble goop, no no no!

@Agent Red – Thanks for your comment. I agree I’ll have to give it another shot. I wrote my review, then did some searches on the wine to see if people wrote it up. When I saw Wine Spies had given it high marks, I thought it only fair I qualify my review by saying “Others love it, and I’ll try it again.” I will check around a few other stores to see if I can find it locally, otherwise I’ll order it and have it shipped. Perhaps, it was just a bad bottle.

@Food Lover – I would love to hear what you think of the wine when you finally get your hands on a bottle. Perhaps I was given the tainted bottle

Covert greetings, Matt. Thanks for mentioning The Wine Spies in your review. I was surprised to read of your bad experience with this wine. When we reviewed it back in November of 2007, we really enjoyed the wine.

I can only imagine that you purchased a tainted bottle. Scott Linstrom-Dake, winemaker for Kelley Creek and its parent label, Thumbprint Cellars, makes some of our favorite Sonoma County wines.

I do recommend that you revisit the wine. If you can, purchase the wine from a different shop.

I haven’t tried this wine–yet–but it’s on my list now, just to see if I agree with you. Lord knows I’ve drank my share of swill…I posted about a bad experience I had yesterday with a Sebastian Roux pinot noir–godawful, at best. My unsophisticated Midwestern palate will tolerate pretty much anything wine-wise, even if my Elitist Snot palate thinks it’s trash. I’ve had a Spanish red I didn’t fancy, an Argentinian Malbec that was so thin-bodied it was like drinking water, and many, many kool-aid simple white zinfandels and too-sweet roses.

The only time I’ve ever come close to spitting something out was a beer. Tasted like soap. I still don’t know exactly what beer it was because it was part of a beer sampling flight that got mixed up.
